Laid-back Lixouri
Two of our top beach resorts sit on either end of Kefalonia. In the north-west, you’ve got Lixouri. It might be the biggest town on the island after the capital Argostoli, but its pace is firmly set to slow. Still, a good helping of tavernas and bars huddle around the main square. And the red-sand beach next door — Xi Beach — is one of the best in Greece.

Skala props itself up on the south-east corner of Kefalonia. A three-kilometre-long beach steals the limelight, backed by green pines and leafy plants.
